The Master’s in Computer Science is designed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of both the theoretical foundations and practical applications of modern computing. The program delves into core areas such as algorithms, software engineering, data management, artificial intelligence, machine learning, cybersecurity, and distributed systems, while also emphasizing research methodologies and scientific inquiry. Through a combination of advanced coursework, hands-on projects, and independent research, students gain the technical proficiency and analytical skills needed to tackle complex computing problems and develop innovative solutions. This degree equips graduates to take on leadership roles in a variety of settings including academia, industry, government, and startups by fostering a strong foundation in problem-solving, critical thinking, and emerging technologies
Blended (Face-to-Face and Online)
The program is delivered using a blended learning approach, combining both face-to-face sessions conducted on campus and online components delivered through a virtual learning platform. This flexible format allows students to benefit from in-person instruction, hands-on practical sessions, and real-time interaction, while also taking advantage of the convenience and accessibility of online learning materials, discussions, and assignments.
Admission requirements for the program
The candidate must satisfy the minimum University admission requirements according to Universities Standards and Guidelines, 2014 (PROG/STD/09) and University statutes. The common regulations applicable to the Masters’ degree of the South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) and the School of Science and Computing shall apply. The following shall be eligible for admission for the degree Master of Science in Computer Science.
(a) A holder of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related Computing discipline with at least Second Class Honours (Upper Division) of South Eastern Kenya University, or equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by the Senate.
OR
(b) A holder of a Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science of at least Credit or equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by the Senate.
OR
A holder of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related Computing discipline with at least Second Class Honours (Lower Division) of South Eastern Kenya University, or equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by Senate with additional relevant training, evidence of research capability either through research, paper presentations or peer reviewed publications and work experience since graduation with a Bachelor’s degree.
OR
(c) Any other alternative qualifications recognized by the South Eastern Kenya University.
